AMD is acquiring Nod.AI, an open-source AI software startup, as part of its AI growth strategy to compete with Nvidia in the AI software and chipmaker market.

  • Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced its acquisition of Nod.AI, an open-source AI software startup.

  • Nod.AI, also known as Nod Labs, specializes in reinforcement learning, an AI method that operates through trial and error.

  • The acquisition is part of AMD's strategy to bolster its presence in AI software and compete with Nvidia, a major rival in the industry.

  • Nvidia's revenue increased by over 100% year over year, while AMD reported an 18% revenue decline for the same period.

  • The acquisition is expected to close in the current quarter.

  • AMD aims to enhance its AI software capabilities through this acquisition and leverage the expertise of Nod.AI's team in open-source AI software and AI model optimizations.

  • Key personnel from Nod.AI have significant industry experience, with the CEO having worked on the first Chromebooks team at Google, and the chief technology officer having been employed by Kitty Hawk, an electric aircraft company backed by Google co-founder Larry Page.

A "nutrition label" called Content Credentials will be attached to each AI-generated image to trace ownership.

Three new Firefly generative AI models are introduced with safety measures.

Adobe is adding more AI functionality to its Creative Cloud apps, including Photoshop and Lightroom.

Adobe is releasing a GeoStudio solution for creators and specific workflows.

New Firefly tools include the Firefly Image 2 Model, Firefly Vector Model, and Firefly Design Model.
